Once again, a BIG THANK YOU to all who responded by participating in this 3yr compilation. This project is something that I've tried and tried to do years ago, but I guess time took care of that. Besides, I'm patient when I have to be lol. I'm grateful and confident with the jam factor of this physical piece of DMV history! I'm sure of what's gonna slowly happen, but at the same time still an "easy going" dude who never "picked" a lane. Instead, I chose to "create" a lane for my self. Competing musically is not really my cup of tea since I have the option of pursuing a path of creating music that feels warm and rewarding to the soul. I think being that I'm a fine artist first is a blessing. I tend to see the brand before hearing it, but in the end, it's all cohesive. As I say, "Work Smart/Play Hard, Play First/Work Second." Peace to the planet, and I hope erryone who picks up Capital Location has a good ol' time. -Solo

I just want to say BIG UP to the deejays who juggled and cut up records in front of me over a decade ago both in my basement and theirs. -DJ Underdog, and DJ Precise One. These men are the reason why (to this day) I walk in the crib and start cutting right away. Btw I have an overdose of video footage of these guys with young profiles on the turns. Also, nuff respect to those whose understanding of value moves them to act accordingly. Here's a spot in the DMV where I end up by mistake every week haha. These valuables move me to dance.

Cap. Loc.(short for Capital Location) is an "ode to" compilation led by D.C.'s own Solograph, and assisted by DMV-connected artists: J. Sands (of Lone Catalysts), Nick tha 1da, Disturbed Individuals, Pyragon, Nondascript, Ghost Boogie, Words Axis, and Precise One. Also, once-crew members of Hibernation, Amphibians, and Goonies share some historical D.C. Hip Hop moments first-hand between songs to add that special authenticity. Cap. Loc. is entirely produced by Solograph, with the exception of "No Time," produced by Nick tha 1da. Sporadically created between 2008 and 2011, while finishing up other releases, Solograph basically operated every machine visually and audibly necessary for Cap. Loc. to become a tangible product, calling his deadlines. There will be a December 2011 release (CD format) via Amazon.com, and a few others TBA. Basement of My Life: Episode 2

Here's the 2nd installment of a series of what I like to call my "instrumental visuals." Everything in this video came about naturally and/or spontaneously.(it's not that serious) In fact, I decided to include some of my immediate fam just because it felt right. All of us used to gather in the basement back in the 80's and listen to 45's pumping straight out of the jukebox. I miss those good ol' times! Episode 3 is in the works to follow "CAP.LOC." I'm trying to use some beat making footage that I recorded circa 99/00. I'll have to see if it's worth it lol.

I had a 30 minute set at Artomatic '09 in S.E., and wanted to do a brand new song just for it. Inspired by PPP's "Shotgun" feat. J Dilla, I wanted to do something with heavy rhythm too, so I looped up something real quick to stomp to. I prefer high energy songs when I perform so I can really move and give a physical show. Next, I did a bit of research, and it became a song called "My Engine." Once you hear the song, you'll completely understand the concept behind the title. It won't go over your head. We performed some Nondascript songs as well like "Most Confident, and Ooh Baby!!" Maybe I'll post some video footage . . . naaahhhh! "My Engine" is also on Cap. Loc. aka Capital Location.

Yesterday, I spoke with long-time inspiring, Dj Precise One about record collecting, and we eventually got on the topic of cassette tape recordings of ours, and musician friends' from the 90's. The conversation went even further into people sitting on music that they should have released mad years ago. I must say, I do have my share of Hip Hop flyers(Soul Camp in DC, etc), but Precise One has a pretty impressive sticker collection that he started in the 90's. When you're passionate about something, others should be able to effortlessly make the connection. Funny, Precise says "this is only some of it" lol. Check it out !

I'm working on the last song for "Capital Location" which is the most appropriate of all songs making the final cut. Go Go music has always been a part of my life being born and raised in D.C. So naturally, Go Go is the easiest of all genres for me to create from scratch. The video below is just a sneak peek of me figuring out what basslines I'll use for my different sequences. After just chilling hard at "the nest" in N.E., I got inspired to work on a "Home Town Remix" of the title track. Both which will be found on the compilation. On December 31, 2010, I decided on a new challenge for 2011 with something of old. I decided to create a new alias for Solograph when on the Yamaha SU-200 sampler, and post solid beat making videos on YouTube. I used the SU-200 heavily from 2000 - 2006, and it still works like new. I produced some of my best Nondascript songs such as "Sunshine" and "The Promise" with this machine. For those who are familiar with samplers (hardware), it's Yamaha's equivalence to the Boss SP-303, which are both fairly limited, forcing one to bring out that natural skillful soul. I've posted 5 videos since 12-31-10. Here's the latest from Analog Always.

What's next? I ask myself this as I come home to pursue my hobbies daily (literally). I've decided to (1) convert all of my personal analog videos with earlier crews/groups, plus cyphers, battles, freestyles at radio stations, and performances around the metro area (1995-2004) to digital for quicker access, and (2) step up my game with the visuals once again, with something of personal history as a start. I learned the importance of documenting with video so many years ago, and YouTube goes w/o saying.

The CAPITALlocation project is sounding very strong as we speak!! It's 2 songs shy from the final mix down with joints from d.j./emcee Precise One and myself. Sixteen songs! Heavy drums! Heavy on the cuts and scratches! Many branches will be growing this year!

"THE RETURN" (movie clip) starring Pyragon & MrBlue

Pyragon and MrBlue performed in Burlington, North Carolina in 2010 for a feature roll in the soon-to-come movie entitled "The Return," presented by LPT FILMS.

Pyragon and MrBlue joined forces in 2008 for the independently released, highly anticipated project, "Virgostratus." D.C. to Toronto, Canada was the geographical connect, and yet another good look for regional Hip Hop. It was my humble pleasure to be invited to guest appear as the turntablist of "Virgostratus" contributing to 4 songs. Let's rewind back to 2007. I came up with an idea to produce a "Metro Area" Hip Hop & Soul compilation called "The Raw: Well Done." This was around the time when I was taking bass lessons, and would come home too sore to play and record. I basically kept forward in motion, feeding off the same productiveness from working on the Nondascript "Double Standard" cd. In fact, our classic song, "Cruise of Thought" was originally made for "The Raw: Well Done," but Pyragon convinced me to throw it on "Double Standard" and wrap it up! I was so happy when the project materialized because it marked 10 years of my production efforts. It was like a 10 year Anniversary gift to myself. I still have a crazy box load of promotional fliers stashed away for it . . wow! Yes, "The Raw: Well Done" is now available for download HERE

Despite the loss of a lot of files due to computer issues then, I did manage to save a couple of clips from 2007 of one of my beat making sessions for "Ratio Radio," and a recording session with Pyragon for "Spring Break." In the first video below, I was sequencing chops for a chorus from a fairly recognizable tune. Shouts to Juma who spit on "Ratio Radio," and co-produced it. In the second video, I just had the cam rolling for testing purposes, but kept it anyway.

First off, I wanna publicly give a BIG THANKS to my fellow musician friends for joining forces with me to create original music. Thanks to Pyragon, Cherie, Micki, Rome, and Jordan. Secondly, thanks to the additional hands: Ingabinga, Juma, Cyrus, Mista Rone, mrBlue, and Robert Hutnyk.

I began this project back in June 2009 after noticing good studio chemistry while recording the remix. It lead to a few videos, a rack of pictures, and 4 additional recordings. Although it took a long minute to get to the physical product, I had "quality over quantity" in mind the whole time. Pyragon Collaborates with Kaos Cru (İstanbul, TR)

Back in 2008, KAOS Cru (Tehlike, Ozbi, and Laneth), a Hip Hop trio based in İstanbul, Turkey contacted Pyragon (1/2 of Nondascript) for a feature-collabo based on their discovery of his music on myspace. Btw, Pyragon and myself form Nondascript (est. 2006). Any who, after Pyragon's returned-research of KAOS and a "YES" response, they recorded their verses in '08, followed by my sending of P's vocal tracks through the matrix to their producer, Ozbi for mixing.

I've been rockin' and recording with Disturbed Individuals since 2003. They started out as a 4 member crew (Middle East), but now remain as a tag team duo consisting of emcees: Johnny Occmo & HY. Here's our process: These dudes come to the recording sessions with dranks for all, I play new beats, they pick one and write verses on the spot, and then I record their vocals (all in the same day every time). Our sessions are never complicated, but instead fun and spontaneous. Be sure to check out their upcoming mixtape L.U.N.C.H. slated for 2011 with production and scratches from yours truly, and more. I produced "Work 4 Yours" and "Everything I Say," which will also be found on the CAPITALlocation project arriving early in 2011. Nondascript Meets Micki Barocca

Nondascript (Pyragon & Solograph) and Micki Barocca have been strangers yet fans of each other's music for nearly 3 years thanks to Myspace. Back in June 2010, I emailed one of our most funkiest instrumentals to Micki to sing on. I gave her a phone call some weeks later checking on it's status, and coincidentally she was on her way to a studio in Atco, New Jersey to record. After her final recording session, she hit me back and I could hear her cheesing if you know what I mean. LOL! From that moment without even hearing her vocals, I knew she turned it into a JAM! WARNING: It's definitely for the movers and shakers.

Today, Nondascript headed up to Philly to finally shake hands(hug to be exact) with the soulful-singing South Carolina native Micki B. There's nothing like a true physical meeting of the creative minds in person, or like they say, "In the flesh." The song that we collaborated on is entitled, "We R So Fly" written and performed by Micki Barocca, with Pyragon on acoustic guitar, and myself on bass and some. The EP is scheduled to drop early in December. Also, be on the lookout for its corresponding DVD with today's interview of Micki Barocca in Philadelphia, and the rest of us musicians. In a minute!

A MUSICAL SLANG (the making of)

This past week was my most productive (recording) week thus far this year. From working on CAPITALlocation, to recording with new found guitarist Jordan for the C.O.T. GIVING THANKS (The Revolution) . . LIVE

This past Saturday, Kalicoh, Pyragon, and myself (Solograph) headed out to Upper Marlboro, MD for a live taping of "Giving Thanks (The Revolution)" courtesy of Ingabinga. Lead by the singing of Cherie "Kalicoh" Latson, Pyragon on acoustic guitar, and yours truly on bass guitar with that ol' drum track pumping, we did the darn thing! The homie Juma brought 2 cameras and filmed for us. We really had a ball! Look out for the LIVE edited video of it which will be featured on the C.O.T. [Remix] (DVD) slated for December 2010. As for now, enjoy some still shots of last Saturday's happenings.

Here's a segment of Nondascript getting their lil musicianship on, here in the Greenroom Studio. This was actually the beginning stages of a song now finished entitled "We R So Fly" written and performed by Micki Barocca, who resides in Philly, PA. Pyragon and I basically jam out harmoniously until something is dope enough to keep, and then make variations which some will later become choruses, bridges, break-downs, and so forth during final arrangement. Btw, the final instrumental came out to sound completely different than what you'll hear below.

I decided to start a series of Greenroom Studio happenings which will range from clips of live jam sessions, to artists recording vocals for projects, or just significant steps that wasn't staged, but captured while the camera was rolling. Ladies and gents, this was my first official "no-budget" video shooting.......YES! With additional camera assistance by Kalicoh and Juma, I was able to hop in the video for my own verse, ha ha! All footage was recorded at selected locations in Maryland back in September and October of 2009 right before the temperature got too cold. Being very pleased with the outcome of the song's lyrics, mood, and maturity, I refrained from over usage of editing effects, allowing nature to do it's thing. Here it is y'all......enjoy!
